Coronavirus (COVID-19) Chair's Statement

I wanted to write to you, following what has been an unprecedented week for us all.

Firstly, I wanted to thank all our team in Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research for their resilience, flexibility and dedication that they have all shown to Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research and each other, during this time. It has been an intensive few days, with a number of rapid developments, that we have all had to adapt to and work in line with, and I am sure that there will be further measures to follow, that we will work through together.

Obviously, this is a time when people find themselves thinking of their families and those around us in our communities, as well as professional and financial positions. I wanted to reassure you, that as a charity, Kidscan is in an strong position to weather this storm, for the foreseeable future. We have sufficient cash reserves, with a strong supporter base and team; we are committed to growing and developing the charity, in order to ensure that we can help fight Children’s Cancer research, now and for the future!

Cancer is still very much active in our young people, and our research and support, is now needed more than ever!

These unprecedented times where we find that perhaps more traditional methods of fund raising and communication is being challenged, as we all work to meet and exceed the government guidelines being put in place. But we are not standing still, we want to support our team, supporters, ambassadors and all our researchers to the very best of our capabilities. With this in mind, we are implementing several changes, with virtual fund-raising initiatives, digitisation of communications, embracing video conferencing and looking at new and exciting ways that we can continue provide support to you all. I would ask for your patience’s at the time.

With the recent announcements from the government we are working hard to keep you, our volunteers and supporters safe, with our team now all working from home, remotely. As always, we are monitoring government advice, and following guidance given by the Public Health Organisation, maintaining best practice, to the best of our abilities.

If you need anything at all, please feel free to get in touch we are here to support you and each other. Together, united and resilient, we will get through this together, stronger and more determined that all young people should not only survive their cancer but thrive after it.

Best regards,
Martin Keelagher
