Corporate Fundraising Champions - The Morson Group

For our monthly Corporate Fundraising update, we want to look back to 2020, and look forward to 2021, to say thank you to The Morson Group. They had chosen us as one of their charity partners for 2020 but then decided to extend this partnership through 2021 as well.

Morson began 50 years ago in engineering recruitment, but The Morson Group is now made up of a collection of businesses offering consultancy, design, technology, screening, training, and people solutions around the world.

Charity and the support of their community are important to Morson and their charity committee was set up in 2007 to lead their fundraising efforts, as the company pledges support each year to worthy causesIn the past 13 years, Morson have raised over £2million for dozens of charities across the UK.

Back in 2020, after an application was submitted by one of our trustees, Kidscan was chosen as one of two charities that Morson employees would fundraise for that year. This was due to come to an end in December but because of Covid19 and the challenges we have all faced, Morson felt they had not been able to commit to their usual level of staff fundraising.

Kidscan’s Corporate Fundraising Manager Bethany Hinchliffe explains:

“Through the year, I’d struggled to build the kind of relationship that I’d normally want to achieve with a corporate partner. With staff on furlough, working from home for the first timethey were busy trying to help people work and get them back into their office safely but I wasn’t able to go in and meet them to help get things plannedPlus events weren’t able to go ahead, it was difficult for all of us.

So, when Morson told me that they wanted to continue our charity partnership for 2021 as well, after this past challenging yearWell, we are really fortunate that we’ve got another year with them, and I’ve got a chance to get to know the staff and hopefully the chance to hold some really fun and engaging events.

In December, Morson invited Bethany and the other partner-charity’s representative along for their end of year awards. Bethany received another, quite wonderful surprise:

It was a total surprise, Morson’s people didn’t tell us anything until we were up on stage, with microphones clipped on, being filmed. Then Morson’s CEO, Ged Mason presented us with a cheque for £40,000 each! We were just overwhelmed by their generosity and after such a terrible year… also knowing that we’ll be working with them for another year is a great boost to the start of 2021, knowing that this will enable us to continue to fund vital research in to new and safer treatments for childhood cancer

To give you an idea of just how generous Morson’s donation is to us at Kidscan, £40,000 will fund pump priming grant for four senior researchers or an amazing twenty x oneyear student placements.

So Kidscan would like to say a huge thank you to The Morson Group for their support and wonderful donation so far. And to thank them also, for this exciting, extended opportunity to work with their staff, fundraising for the coming year
