Covid19 - Advice for Kidscan Runners

With the Coronavirus outbreak sweeping across the UK, we have seen many organised run providers announce that they have postponed events, leaving many runners and fundraisers asking themselves what exactly do we do now?

We’ve answered some of the most common question we have had, but if you are running for Kidscan and have any other questions, don’t forget we are here to help!

Why is my run postponed?
As the uk government increases its efforts to control coronavirus, many run providers are choosing to postpone their large scale events. This is to help in “flattening the curve” by reducing large crowds, but most importantly to ensure that there are no unnecessary strains on public resources such as the NHS, Police or Fire Services.

What happens to any money I have raised?
Many of our fundraisers raise money via an online platform such as JustGiving which transfer funds to charities as they are made. It is important to remember that if your run is postponed, your run is still going ahead so you can continue as normal using the extra time to raise more money, and to train!

What if I can’t make the rescheduled run?
At the moment, the information coming through is not set in stone, as companies and organisers respond to any changes in the current climate. What we do know is – If for any reason you have to drop out of an organised race, you must inform everyone who has sponsored you. They have the choice of being refunded or to donate the money to charity anyway.

So what do I do now?
Let’s stay positive – many running events across the UK including the London Marathon are only postponed, meaning as it stands (Monday 16th March 2020) if you have already purchased a place either through a charity or the event organisers – you will get to run once the next date that is announced. So, the most important thing right now is to just keep training.

You may be wondering how on earth to keep momentum, when you don’t have a date for your run, or when your run is months away? But there are plenty of creative ways to keep fit. You could also try setting yourself a new goal or joining a virtual run.

And remember, however you chose to keep going, Kidscan are here for you every step of the way!
