Covid19 - Advice for Volunteers

As COVID 19 continues to affect the UK, government advice is affecting the way we run our charity. As of the 13th March we paused all volunteer recruitment, and after implementing work from home we also made the decision to pause our dedicated office volunteers.

After ensuring our charity can continue to support vital childhood cancer research during this time, we would like to offer the following advice to volunteers

I am an office volunteer – what should I be doing?
At this time, the Kidscan team are all working from home, meaning our office is closed. If you volunteer in our office we are asking that you stay home. If you have access to a computer, there are lots of things you can get involved with! We are making every effort to contact our volunteers individually, but if you haven’t heard from us just get in touch!

I am an events volunteer – what should I be doing?
Our events volunteers are crucial, spending their time cheering on our runners or helping to set up events. At the moment most events are being postponed or cancelled, meaning there aren’t currently any opportunities. However events will start back up again once government guidance allows and so we are asking our events volunteers to keep in touch.

I am a collections volunteers – what should I be doing?
When Kidscan organises collections we have to apply to local councils, shopping centres or stores. At the moment there is a freeze on collections across many local councils. Although some places are still accepting applications, we have decided, in order to keep our volunteers safe that we are also going to pause collections. If you usually collect for Kidscan we will be in touch, but again if you haven’t heard from us contact us.

I love volunteering – what can I do instead?
We know that volunteering is an amazing way to support a charity, and many people who usually volunteer will be stuck at home wondering how else they can support us. Worry not! There are hundreds of ways you can still get involved such as holding an online collection, creating your own fundraiser or continuing to volunteer from home!
