Runs for you this New Year

There are plenty of runs for you to choose from this year. You may have your own reasons to run a marathon whether it’s to improve your fitness, tick it off your bucket list or fundraise for a charity.

Kidscan has many runs that we participate in with however we have chosen a handful that we believe may be something you, the family or friends would be interested in.

ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon

The Greater Manchester Marathon is the UK’s flattest and fastest marathon. The event takes place in spring on Sunday the 7th of April.0 You will join the other 16,000 people participating in this run ranging from beginners to your more experienced runners.

Being the Flattest run in the UK, it is a perfect place to start and more enticing if you want to smash your marathon PB. You will start and finish at the Old Trafford Stadium and run through the beautiful city of Manchester.

 Simplyhealth Greater Manchester Run

The Great Manchester Run (GMR) is an annual run that consists of a 10 km and a half marathon. The 10 km run is the largest one in Europe with more than 40,000 people participating in the run.

GMR is also a great day out for the family. Not only can adults run this event but also junior’s and mini’s.

Anyone above the age of 17 can join both the GMR 10km and half marathon run if you are 15 years old you can participate in the 10km run.

For the GMR Junior run it is a 2.5 km distance which starts and finishes at the 10 km and half marathon line. Anyone between the ages of 9 to 15 can participate in this event.

If you have young ones (3 – 8 years old) in your family, they too can participate in a 1.5 km run. This group usually starts after the junior run but may be subject to change.

The Great North Run

The half marathon is the largest in the world and takes place on Sunday the 8th of September. This course stretches from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields crossing over the Tyne Bridge into Gateshead.

Last year Mo Farah became the first person in history to win the event five times consecutively with a time of 58:56 minutes. So if you fancy your chances or just want to have a fun day out, this is a perfect day out for you. You can check out how you can help Kidscan along the way.

Manchester Half Marathon

This is a fairly new event compared to the above, however, numbers are increasing every year. It is also the flattest and fastest half marathon around and another chance for you to smash your current half marathon PB.

The Manchester Half Marathon is on Sunday the 13th of October and looks to be another exciting year. We participate in this Half Marathon so feel free to check it out.

Whatever run you decide to do this year each one will be packed full of local entertainment and support.
