Sandy and Maccy's Big Road Trip 2016

Last weekend, two Stockport County fans took part in a road trip of epic proportions – all in aid of Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research.

Greg Hall (‘Sandbach Hatter’, or ‘Sandy’) and Gareth Evans (‘Hatter in Macc’, or ‘Maccy’) are founder members of County’s online fans’ forum, ‘County Heaven’, and they have been supporting the work that Kidscan do for a few years – having already organised two sponsored walks to away matches, in 2013 and 2015.

This year, Greg decided they should do something a bit more adventurous, and he came up with the challenge of trying to drive to all of the twenty-two football grounds in County’s league… in just one weekend!

Having left Edgeley Park early on Saturday morning, the pair travelled around the country, taking in grounds as far afield as AFC Fylde in the North-West, North Ferriby in the North-East, Lowestoft in the South-East (not to mention the Far East!) and Cheltenham in the South-West, before returning back to Stockport almost exactly on schedule, shortly after 9pm Sunday evening. Not only did they successfully visit all of the grounds in County’s league, they managed to take in eight ‘bonus’ grounds as well!

In total, they travelled over 1,000 miles, meeting fans from all over the country – who turned out to present them with food, drink, items for auction and, most importantly, donations – and returned home, having raised well over £2,000 for Kidscan!

A lovely quote from the two superstars: “Gareth and I were completely overwhelmed by the support and generosity we encountered on our trip. What should have been a long, arduous drive, ended up being a tremendous amount of fun, thanks in no small part to the wonderful people we met along the way. To raise more than £2,000 forKidscan is something we are both very proud of, and we’re already planning our next big adventure!”

Huge thank you to everyone who supported Sandy and Maccy in their epic road trip, the money raised will go towards giving children with cancer a brighter future.
