Celia's Story

I chose to volunteer at Kidscan because my mum went through chemo, so I know how hard it is. For a child it has to be a lot worse as they don’t know what is going on. At Kidscan I have taken part in many events including Bounce central family fun day and a collection at Tesco.

I’m having fun and feeling like I’m doing something useful. I don’t get the same feeling at work, you know that it is making a difference. When I did the Tesco collection it funded 17 hours of research, this is going somewhere, I’m making a difference! I’m also boosting my CV getting the amazing support from Kidscan.

Charity Collection FAQ's

What Skills & Attributes do I need?

As a Kidscan Collections volunteer you will be interacting with members of the public, answering questions about Kidscan and encouraging people to donate. You should be confident, outgoing and be able to engage in conversation with members of the public. You also need to be enthusiastic about Kidscan and the research we fund.

As you will be collecting donations you also need to be trustworthy.

What support will be provided?

At Kidscan we provide you with everything you need to carry out your collection, from equipment to training.

When you join the volunteer team, you will receive a full induction relevant to your role, including information about Kidscan so you can have meaningful conversations with the public. You will also receive our helpful guide to carrying out a collection on behalf of Kidscan!

On the day of your collection, a member of the Kidscan team, or a lead volunteer will meet you on locations for a brief and to hand over any equipment you need. Depending on the event, the same person will meet you at the end of the day to collect the equipment and moneys raised from you.

After your collection, a member of the Kidscan team will be in touch to debrief, go through any expenses you need to claim, let you know how much you helped to raise, and to organise your next collection!
How much time do I need to commit?

Each collection is different depending on the location. As a rough guide supermarket collections last a few hours, and street collections can be full days including breaks. However, any time you can give will be of great value to us and greatly appreciated!
