Which online fundraising platform should you use?

With over 168,186 registered charities in the UK, all with their own dedicated supporters, it’s no surprise that there are hundreds of online fundraising platforms all wanting you to choose them to set up an online fundraising page.

From the ease of use to the level of the commission charged on donations, there are small nuisances that make it difficult to know exactly which platform to choose. To help you chose we have chosen the three most popular fundraising platforms amongst our supporters.

Facebook Fundraisers launched in November 2017 and has since become extremely popular amongst Facebooks 39 Million UK users. Not only does setting up a Facebook fundraising page make it extremely easy to share your fundraiser with your friends, but it also doesn’t charge any processing fees on the money your supporters donate! That means more funds go directly to your chosen charity.

One downside to a Facebook fundraiser is that Facebook doesn’t process Gift Aid on the charities behalf, however, savings made on processing fees cover staff costs of applying for Gift Aid.

JustGiving is arguably one of the most common fundraising platforms. Since it was formed in 2001, it has helped people to raise over $4.5 billion for good causes across 164 countries!

The huge benefit of JustGiving is that they process Gift Aid on the charities behalf, meaning for those who are eligible charities automatically get Gift Aid added to the donation. The user interface to JustGiving is easy to use, and because it’s so popular there are hundred’s of websites dedicated to giving you tips and tricks to make the most of your fundraiser!

The downside is that JustGiving charges a fee to the charity, for processing card transaction and for processing GiftAid. But for many charities, this is still lower than the admin costs of processing information.

Everyday Hero

Since it was founded in 2007, over 617,000 people have used Everyday Hero to support one of the 5,689 charities signed up to the platform. The platform is a popular choice for charities who use Blackbaud’s CRM systems (a system charities use to process supporter data) because the information from Everyday Hero feeds seamlessly into the system – reducing admin work for the team!

For the supporter Everyday Hero is a great choice because it allows you to keep track of all your offline donations too! Giving you an up to date total throughout your fundraiser.

The downside to Everyday Hero is that there is a small fee associated with processing each donation. However, your supporters are given the option to cover the costs of the processing fees for the charity in their donation.
