HOW UK Business Events ltd GOT BEHIND KIDSCAN

UK Business Awards Ltd held their Northern Housing Awards, naming KidsCan as the Charity Partner for the event.

Allowing us the opportunity to engage with attendees, Charlotte Jennings, KidsCan Ambassador and childhood cancer survivor, spoke to attendees and shared her story. KidsCan were given the opportunity to hold a raffle on the evening and over £4,400 was raised on the evening.

The money raised through their dedication to supporting childhood cancer will make a huge impact to our research and our KidsCan connect programme.

WHY IT MATTERS

Charlotte Jennings was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at the age of 11. Her first round of chemotherapy caused severe side effects, including hair loss, liver lesions, and a painful body rash due to a fungal infection called Mucormycosis.

When the first round of treatment failed, Charlotte endured another three, which resulted in further complications. She ultimately required a bone marrow transplant, undergoing a high dosage of steroids typically reserved for adults.

Now 24 and cancer-free, Charlotte continues to face the lifelong repercussions of her treatments. She suffers from infertility, hearing loss, and severe joint issues, necessitating future knee and hip replacements.

Despite these challenges, Charlotte is now a pediatric nurse, dedicated tohelping others navigate similar journeys. Her lived experience and knowledge of paediatric care make her a powerfuladvocate for all those affected by childhood cancer.
