The brother and father of Maddie Wilkinson, who in 2009 died of a rare cancer at just age six, took to their bikes on Saturday 22^nd October for a challenging one day 100 mile cycle ride raising money for children’s cancer research charity Kidscan.15 year old Elliot – who has so far raised a staggering sum of over £1000 – and his father Tony were joined by two further family and friends for the testing ride which began at 8:30am along the A49 close to Bartington, Northwich. The 100 mile ride, following the North West cycle path through Colwyn Bay, onto Rhyl and finally to the finish line at Mostyn, took the team a total of ten hours and funds raised by the group are still coming in.In December 2008 Maddie was a happy and healthy six year old, but two weeks into 2009 she passed away due to a rare and aggressive cancer. Maddie had developed Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a very fast-growing cancer which can double in size in just 24 hours. It is incredibly rare, with only three in every million people being diagnosed with it. Family and friends of Maddie have been fundraising for Kidscan ever since 2009, and the money raised from this fundraising initiative will be added to the thousands of pounds already raised for the charity over the years.Tony Wilkinson, father of Maddie Wilkinson, said: “We lost our daughter Maddie in 2009 at just age 6, shortly after this we came across Kidscan which was set up in 2002, the same year that Maddie was born.
