Lowri Turner our fundraising manager, and David Pye our Scientific Director spent Saturday, 3rd May with an inspirational group of people. The Faces of Ward 84, a support group for families dealing with childhood cancer, came to visit the Kidscan labs and see how Kidscan is working towards a future where every child diagnosed with cancer will survive and thrive. The group, which formed through friendships built up amongst parents, patients and sibling on ward 84 of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, spent an afternoon learning about the research Kidscan is undertaking from Dr Dave Pye, whilst Lowri helped the children complete a Kidscan quiz.Families like the ones who visited face the challenges of living with the side effects of cancer treatments. The drugs currently available are not designed for children and can cause serious health problems. At Kidscan, we are working hard to change that. Survival is not enough. We want to give every child diagnosed with cancer a long and healthy life after treatment, through developing new, gentler drugs better suited to growing bodies.A big thank you to the Faces of Ward 84 for visiting us.
