Understanding why you do something is the foundation for anything you do. Ask yourself why. Why am I doing a run? Why do I want to help my charity? These questions will lead you in the right direction, and the rest will follow.
We’ve all heard of Simon Sinek’s, “Start with why” and if you haven’t I highly recommended checking his work out. Your WHY provides you with a sense of purpose and will not leave you second-guessing your decisions. Once you understand why you are doing something you will be able to communicate that with the rest of the world.
Telling your friends about your run or event can be a daunting experience. You may have some that will criticise you and think it is a bad idea, don’t stress. On the hand, you will have those who will be with you 100% of the way. As long as you know why you are doing what you are doing, you will be okay.We recommend telling your closes friends about your run or event in person or by phone. This lets the message spread slowly through your network of friends and their friends as well. They may offer some advice from their experience or get you in touch with someone who does.
Similar experience with telling your friends as it is with telling your family. In my own experience telling my family about my runs in the past, they have always been supportive however they express concerns at the same time — a concoction of mixed emotions.Above all, they will want the best for you. They will spread the news through their networks and may assist you in fundraising at their work or connect you will find people who have been through a similar situation. Letting your family know will also help in being that support network you need.
Telling you to work colleagues about your run or event is another excellent way of spreading the word. They may offer to help you with fundraising ideas that you have and give some of their time into reaching and engage the rest of the people close to you.Another important factor in telling your work colleagues is that your boss may want to help you to raise funds. They can help out by emailing everyone through their intranet or offer to set up a match it or match period.
Once you have your WHY you will be able to express your reason for your run or event to your closes ones and work colleagues. You will develop a strong support network along the way and when you decide to let the world of social media know you will have their support and a much bigger impact on the message you broadcast.
