Read MoreThe case for proton therapy in the UK is built around pediatric treatment. Radiation coupled with custom-designed nanoparticles offers an interesting promise for future anti-cancer therapeutics and there are already such nanoparticles in clinical trials [1]. Since gold nanoparticles (GNPs) showed promise with mechanisms similar to those in proton and heavy ion therapy [2] there are reasons to be optimistic that suitable GNPs might form part of a more economic and more widely-available approach to treating pediatric cancers.
