A Month of Haircuts for Kidscan

As the cold winter weather hit Britain in December, everyone dug out their woolly hats, apart from three brave young schoolgirls who decided they wanted to get their hair cut short for charity!

Marli Holden surprised her parents with the idea of wanting to cut her hair short for charity. Marli decided that she wanted to cut her hair and send it to the Little Princess Trust after her Mum had told her about children who lose their hair when undertaking a serious illness.

Marli later decided she wanted to use the haircut as an opportunity to raise money for Kidscan. Marli received tremendous support and raised over £1,000 for the charity within 24 hours of her JustGiving page-going live! To date Marli has managed to raise over £2,100 for Kidscan – an incredible achievement!

In addition, Brooke Edmondson (age 9) also had her long hair cut short. Brooke, similarly to Marli decided she wanted to donate her long locks to the Little Princess Trust.

Brooke’s dad commented expressing how “Brooke has always loved having her long hair, although she has recently expressed and realised that other children could benefit not only from having the hair, but also in a monetary way too to help charities. He expressed that all of her friends and family were truly in awe of the action she has taken at such a young age, and has showed maturity and responsibility far beyond her early years.”

Besides raising a fantastic £300 in sponsorship for Kidscan, Brooke has also won a citizens award at school for her fantastic charity work – an award truly deserved!

Moreover, In Llanharan, 9-year-old Sophie Rees had 13.5 inches of her hair cut off! With the help of Exquisite Hair Salon, (who kindly cut her hair for free), Sophie to-date has managed to raise over £1000 for Kidscan.

Sophie’s Mum, Sarah commented that she was really surprised that Sophie wanted to cut her hair short for charity and how this idea came completely out of the blue. Sarah told Kidscan how her initial target of a few hundred pounds was smashed within days because the public were so impressed with her intentions.

Sarah explained how Sophie has raised awareness as well as funds for this wonderful cause, which has turned her haircut into the greatest achievement to date. Sarah went on to say how “they are so lucky to have Sophie, who is now growing into a caring and wonderful human being.

It is fair to say that all three girls have done an amazing job; so much to say that money is still being raised from all three haircuts. The final total is set to reach a tremendous amount and will go to helping Kidscan find safer treatments for children diagnosed with cancer. Fantastic work girls!
