Fundraising Board Recruitment

Could you help make a difference to the lives of young people touched by Cancer?

As we celebrate our 18th year as a charity, Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research, are seeking to bring together a committee of business leaders to form our very first Fundraising Board, to galvanise the support of the North-West business community, for this vital cause

We envision that members of the board, will be leaders in their chosen professional fields, wanting to give something back, but not necessarily wanting the fiduciary responsibilities of being a board trustee. Thewill be experts in using their professional networks to engage new supporters, in order to raise funds to help support vital, targeted research in to treatment for children’s cancer

Martin Keelagher, the Chair of Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research“We want to create a Fundraising Board where business leaders can come together to organise a number of fundraising events, say a ball or a day at the race track, or volunteer to help with a specific task such as marketing or business development.

We’re looking for individuals, who have the same commitment to giving something back and supporting the charity, but they won’t have the extra responsibilities of governance or the same time commitment that becoming a full Trustee and the demands and responsibilities, that that brings.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for an influential person bursting with ideas, energy and contacts, to bring this to the table and help Kidscan strive for new, less toxic treatments for childhood cancer.”

ABOUT KIDSCAN:

As a leading Children’s Cancer Research charity, based in Salford, Kidscan funds and manages research into new and improved treatments for children with cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in children in the UK and sadly 25% of children diagnosed won’t make it to their 30th birthday. Many of the children who do survive, suffer life-long, life-limiting side effects caused by the treatments used to cure them.

We receive no statutory funding, but with contributions from the public, volunteers and businesses, we fund research to develop new treatments that not only cure children with cancer but also prevent the side effects of current treatments such as learning difficulties, mobility issues and infertility.

As a fully registered charity, our Kidscan vision and purpose is that we believe all children should not only survive their cancer, but thrive afterwards. Going on to enjoy their lives fully, without the limited impacts of having suffered from Cancer. This guides our decision-making and strategic development.

ROLE OF MEMBERS:

Through dedicated fundraising and networking, we see the committee becoming a key engine of growth and development for the charity, allowing us to become more ambitious in the research that we fund.

Bethany Hinchliffe, Kidscan’s Head of Corporate Fundraising, will be working alongside members of the committee: “The board will host fun events that meet their interests and knowledge. These events will engage your networks across the business community, bringing people together to raise vital funds, share the stories of our ambassadors and raise awareness of childhood cancer. This might range from black-tie dinners to drive in movie nights!

We’re looking for a mix of people so they can bounce ideas off each other. We need people who are good at the logistics and finances of arranging an event but also, we need creative, captivating personalities whose charisma can inspire a room or source that big prize!

We need doers. People in senior management roles, who can come up with ideas, take ownership and deliver the event along with support from the Kidscan team.”

As Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research holds charitable status, this position will be unremunerated.
