LATEST NEWS

Next year will be Kidscan’s 18th year.

We plan to pack it full of exciting, innovative and new developments as we strive towards better treaments for children with cancer.

Can you help us be the best that we can be? If it’s a yes, apply to become a Charity Trustee with Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research.

Martin Keelagher, Kidscan’s Chair of the Board: “At the moment and more than ever, charities such as Kidscan need your help and support. But it’s not always about the money. Charities also need experienced, connected individuals who are willing to give time, commitment and can get out their black books to help support them, ensuring every young person touched by cancer survives and thrives.”

KIDSCAN’S PURPOSE:

Cancer is the leading cause of death in children in the UK. 25% of children diagnosed won’t make it to their 30th birthday. Many of the children who do survive, suffer life-long, life-limiting side effects caused by the treatments used to cure them.  We receive no statutory funding, but with contributions from the public, volunteers and businesses, we fund research to develop new treatments that not only cure children with cancer but also prevent the side effects of current treatments such as learning difficulties, mobility issues and infertility.

As a fully registered charity, our Kidscan vision and purpose is that we believe all children should not only survive their cancer, but thrive afterwards. Going on to enjoy their lives to the full, without the limiting impact of having suffered from Cancer. This guides our decision-making and strategic development.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

You will be a leader in your field, looking for an opportunity to give something back in a highly rewarding role in a ground breaking childhood cancer research charity.

Martin Keelagher: “As business leaders, we have to keep a keen eye on our profits, losses, margins and support our teams. This is an opportunity to step outside of this role, and instead of measuring success by profit, we measure it by how many children’s lives the charity has touched and helped. When you’re a charity trustee, there are different driving forces. At Kidscan the main aim is to fund as much research and impact on as many children’s lives as possible.”

We are particularly interested in candidates who can offer expertise in technology or marketing and communications, and charity and legal governance. We want someone with an entrepreneurial and inspiring leadership approach, together with a dedicated knowledge in one of the areas mentioned, to complement the skills of the existing Board.

You will be part of a collegiate and committed Board, acting as a “critical friend” to senior Kidscan leadership and offering good governance oversight to the charity. You will have the exciting opportunity to further develop our charitable purpose strategy and programmes during your term.

We welcome candidates who can contribute greater diversity of representation and thinking to our Board and be fully aligned to our vision and values of Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research.

TO APPLY: please send a CV and covering letter to board@kidscan.org.uk
