Before retiring in April 2019 I worked in HR for nearly 30 years, mainly in manufacturing organisations. I particularly liked working with people, supporting them to develop and achieve their full potential whilst meeting the needs of the organisation. The roles in my HR career were varied. In the early years, I was site-based enabling me to balance my career with raising a family. Once my family were independent I took on more global HR roles and was fortunate to be able to travel to South Korea, Japan, China, USA, Europe….etc. I am grateful for the experiences I had and the people I met.
I knew that I wanted to do volunteer work when I retired from a global HR role but I didn’t know what exactly.
I was born and raised in Salford- it’s home for me – and I studied at the University of Salford. Being Salford based and with their strong links to the University, Kidscan seemed a good fit for me. However, the main driver was the work that Kidscan support and fund. My daughter has had cancer which has given me an insight into the effects of cancer treatments and how vital research is.
Volunteering at Kidscan is satisfying and good fun. The team is a small group of friendly and welcoming people who all work very hard. They work well together and support each other. The one thing I notice most when at the Kidscan office is the passion the team has for this worthwhile charity. I am proud to feel part of the team and would recommend volunteering with Kidscan…….especially if you like cake as there’s often cake to be eaten
